Services Provided

Home Care Nursing Visits: - by referral

  • RNs can do home visits for dressings, medication monitoring, diabetes care, assessments, counselling etc.
  • Post-operative follow up by referral from surgeon
  • Coordination of care with other health care professionals

Laboratory Services: - by appointment only - 8:15am to 2:30pm Monday - Friday

  • RNs draw blood which is sent to St. Mary's Hospital for testing
  • ECGs (electrocardiograms)
  • Specimens sent out for analysis

Ambulatory Care:

  • Blood pressures, blood sugar testing, injections, ear syringing, suture removal etc
  • Assessment of injuries or illnesses for patients unable to see physician or without a local doctor
  • Treatment of specified medical problems such as burns, urinary tract infections, sore throats, earaches, insect bites/stings, tick removal etc.
  • Triage of patients who may require transfer to hospital or urgent appointment with physician

Non-residents are asked to make a small donation to help the Health Centre for costs incurred for dressings, tests, and medications. These are minimal and assist this non-profit society to provide ongoing care in the community.

 

Continuing Diabetes Education Program

Nancy Mackay, RN, CDE and Dianne Paulus, RD, CDE provide diabetes care through education and monitoring. They offer:

  • Regular (monthly) classes by appointment where those with diabetes +/- spouses can attend to learn more about the disease, new treatment options and lifestyle changes necessary to live healthily with a chronic disease.
  • Drop-in days when you can come in to get information from a nurse or dietician regarding food choices, risk management etc. This is for those with diabetes or who have family members with this disease and who want more information
  • 1:1 counselling is available by appointment with either Nancy or Dianne to discuss issues of concern around diabetes.

If you are diabetic you will require blood and urine testing every three months. If you have not booked an appointment, we will try to notify you by phone or e-mail if you prefer.


Nutrition Counselling:

You can make an appointment with Dianne Paulus, RD for a consultation regarding any nutritional or dietary issues you would like to discuss. This can be around weight gain or loss, dietary restrictions imposed by your doctor or just a healthy eating program. You can leave your name with the clinic office manager and Dianne will call you to set up an appointment at the Health Centre.

Travel Clinic and Immunizations:

These are all done at Help on the Way in Sechelt. Appointments are required. (604)885-4337
